Died: July 18, 2008 Woodrow “Woody” Gentry, 69, of Chuckey, died Friday morning at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home in Johnson City. His family stated, “Woody had accepted Christ as his Savior and attended Bradburn Hill United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted.” Survivors include his wife: Helen Morrison Gentry; his children and their spouses: Steve and Sherry Gentry, David and Debra Gentry, Pam and Terry Metcalf, Chris and Cindy Morrison, Melissa and Buddy Capps, and Kathy and Brian Nance, his grandchildren: Andrew Gentry, Travis Metcalf, Taylor Metcalf, Jonathan Morrison, and Quinton Nance, a special granddaughter: Sadie Hawk, and a special grandson: Bryant Metcalf, all of Greene County; a brother and sister-in-law: Ervin “Junior” and Wanda Gentry of Greene County; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Eva and Billy Justis of Morristown and Viola and Jim Bloyd of DeKalb, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; his mother-in-law: Arnell Morrison; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Alma and Buford Jones; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: David and Judy Morrison, Oscar and Diane Morrison and Denver Carroll Morrison; and his special “telephone buddies”: Roxie Burger and Louise Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dennie and Olive Gentry; a grandchild: Bo Gentry; and a brother: Cecil M. Gentry. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and Sunday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 8 o’clock Sunday evening in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Roger Crim and the Rev. Chad Roberts will officiate. A committal service will be held at 11 o’clock Monday morning in Bradburn Hill Cemetery. Full military graveside honors will be conducted at the graveside. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 o’clock to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Morrison, Andrew Gentry, Travis Metcalf, Tommy Justis, Jerry Justis and Duane Justis. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Larrison, Bobby Freshour and Tim Armstrong.
