Chuckey-Doak stormed into the second round of the District 1-AA Softball Tournament with a 10-0 win over West Greene on Friday.

The Lady Knights, hosting their opening round game by virtue of finishing in the top half of the conference, got a three-hit, six-strikeout pitching performance from Tiffany Bowman and a huge day at the plate by Kala Kyker to pace the victory.

Kyker went three-for-four with a double, triple, four RBIs and two runs scored.

It was a blast by Kyker that got things started for the Lady Knights.

After Chuckey-Doak got out of the top of the first with two West Greene runners in scoring position, Kyker put the first two runs on the board with a two-run triple to center. Miranda Lane drove in a run to put the Lady Knights up 3-0.

Trouble hit West Greene in the bottom of the second when three errors opened the door for Chuckey-Doak to score two more runs. Jordan Bowers drove one in with a double to left, and Kyker added another RBI.

The Lady Knights upped their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third when Kelley Weems reached on a double off the fence that was probably the hardest hit ball of the afternoon and scored on an RBI single from Amber Stills.

West Greene's biggest threat came in the top of the fourth. Brittany Duffield led off with a base hit, and then with one away, Becka Gregory reached on a single and Shauna Lamb drew a walk to load the bases. Chuckey-Doak shortstop Kaitlyn Frye recorded a putout, and Bowman closed the inning with a strikeout to leave the bases loaded for the Lady Buffs.

The Lady Knights tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kyker had the big hit of the inning with her double. Lane, Tiffany Crum and Stills each drove in a run.

Fittingly, it was Kyker that ended the game with a RBI in the bottom of the fifth. Frye led off the inning with a double, and Kyker ripped a hard run-scoring base hit right up the middle to make it 10-0 and close the book on West Greene's season.

West Greene closes out the season with a 10-13 record.

Chuckey-Doak improves to 20-12 and will take on Elizabethton on Monday at 6:30 when the remainder of the tournament moves to Elizabethton.

The Lady Cyclones defeated Sullivan North 12-0 on Friday.
