(Last modified: 2008-05-08 12:40:11) Source: The Greeneville Sun A firearms safety, home protection and concealed-carry course will be presented at the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad building on West Church Street, on Tuesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 5, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The course is designed for those with limited skills and knowledge of firearms. It will cover types of handguns and ammunition, maintenance and cleaning, loading and unloading guns, Tennessee law, avoiding criminal attack, controlling violent confrontation, home safety, safe handling of firearms, and actual firing of handguns. Instructors are certified by the National Rifle Association and/or the Tennessee Police Standards and Training Commission (POST). There is a $60 fee to cover instructional materials, firearms, and ammunition. Participants need not possess a handgun to attend the class, as firearms will be furnished for shooting exercises. However, students who choose to bring their own handguns may do so on the second night. For an additional charge of $20, students who complete the course, take, and pass, the state concealed carry test, and qualify with their own weapon and ammunition will be eligible to apply for a concealed-carry handgun permit.
