A report filed on Wednesday afternoon by a Greene County Deputy Sheriff said that earlier that day J.D. Ooten, 88, of North Mohawk Road, had been working on a tractor in a field when the accident occurred. Ooten was flown from the scene to the Johnson City Medical Center by a Wings Air Rescue helicopter. Ooten, according to the report, had been working on a John Deere tractor and apparently attempted to start the engine while standing on the ground next to it. The tractor was in gear and ran over Ooten, according to Deputy Sheriff Michael Jones' report. After striking Ooten, according to Jones' report, the tractor continued down an embankment before stopping. A passerby discovered Ooten some time after the accident took place, according to the report. Copyright © 2008, The Greeneville Sun |
