The medical condition of a man injured in an industrial accident on Tuesday morning at the Greeneville-Greene County Landfill/Transfer Station has improved.

Gary Burgner, 59, of Chuckey, an employee of the Greeneville Public Works Department, was listed in serious condition at the Johnson City Medical Center this morning, a nursing supervisor said.

Burgner had been listed in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.

A statement sent by e-mail to The Greeneville Sun said Burgner was injured at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Greeneville/Greene County Landfill/Transfer Station and was flown to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.

Emergency radio transmissions from the scene on Tuesday morning indicated that a man had been run over there "by a large front-end loader."

Details of how the accident took place have not been released by Greeneville officials.

The victim, later identified as Burgner, had been flown from the scene to the Johnson City Medical Center by a Wings Air Rescue helicopter.
