The 113th U.S. Army Band from Fort Knox in Kentucky will present a free concert at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, Sept. 17, as part of a National Constitution Day celebration.

The concert will celebrate the bicentennial birthday of President Andrew Johnson and the 221st anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia by the Constitutional Convention.

The NPAC will open at 6 p.m. Union and Confederate recruiting posts will be staffed by Civil War reenactors outside NPAC prior to the program.

The free seating will be on a first come, first served basis.

The formal program will begin at 7 p.m. with a multi-media presentation that will recount the history of President Johnson, the nation's 17th president.

The U.S. Army Band, known as "The Dragoons," played for the inaugural parade in 1865 of President Abraham Lincoln and Vice President Johnson.

The band plays both ceremonial and concert music.

Also participating in the event will be Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1990, Robert F. Mitchell American Legion Post 64, the Marine League and the Greeneville High School Junior Air Force ROTC.

The celebration event is sponsored by the Museums of Tusculum College, the Andrew Johnson Bicentennial Committee and the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area in cooperation with the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site.

In honor of National Constitution Day, each program attendee will receive a free copy of the U.S. Constitution.
