The Sequoyah Council, Boy Scouts of America, hosted a large gathering of Order of the Arrow members at Camp Davy Crockett the weekend of April 17-19 during the 2009 Section SR-6 Conclave.

The event drew 717 youth and adults from 10 lodges in Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi. The Sequoyah Lodge of the Order of the Arrow acted as the host lodge.

Participants attended leadership classes, competed in dance, ceremonies and other fun-based competitions.

Cameron Mitchell, a Life Scout from Kingsport, won first place in the "best traditional dance competition."

Mitchell Saulsbury, an Eagle Scout from Greeneville's Troop 92, sponsored by the Greeneville Moose Lodge, was elected as SR-6 Section vice chief.

Tom Klug, an Eagle Scout from Johnson City, was elected chief for the Sequoyah Lodge.

The Order of the Arrow is an honor camping society of the Boy Scouts of America. Youth members are eligible to be elected by their troops once they have achieved the rank of First Class and spent a minimum of 20 nights camping.

The Sequoyah Council serves more than 12,000 youth and volunteers in 16 counties in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
