Knights Win League Tilt; Devils Split Pair In South Carolina Trip

Chuckey-Doak picked up another conference victory Tuesday, while Greeneville split a pair of games in Charleston, S.C., and West Greene fell in a league game on the road.

The Black Knights beat Happy Valley and West Greene lost at Elizabethton, both Watauga Conference tilts. Greeneville won one and lost one in games in South Carolina.

Knights Beat Warriors

Chuckey-Doak erased a 3-1 deficit with a big six-run uprising in the fourth inning and went on to take a 9-3 victory over visiting Happy Valley Tuesday night at the Knights' Field.

Trevor Richerson collected four hits, including a double, to lead the Knights, while Devin Williams cracked out three safe blows. Tyler Feezell had two singles. Chad Shelton belted a two-run homer in the big six-run fourth.

Down 3-1 in the fourth, Richerson, Feezell and Kevin Alexander each singled to start the inning and load the bases. John Davis followed with a two-run single to tie the score. Drew Lady got an RBI with a squeeze bunt. Williams had an RBI-single, and Shelton capped off the rally with a two-run homer.

Happy Valley managed only four hits off winning pitcher Williams, but one of those was a two-run homer by Tyler Blevins in the third.

The Knights will host Sullivan East Thursday and play at Cocke County on Friday.

Devils Pick Up Win, Loss

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Greeneville's Spring Break baseball trip to Charleston, S.C., got off to a good start as the Devils beat Edisto, S.C. 14-4 on Monday afternoon.

Ryan Fillers tossed a four-hitter and Jordan Greenway slugged a grand slam home run in the third inning that propelled the Devils to a 5-1 lead.

Cody Duncan polished things off with a two-run homer in the fifth when Greeneville scored seven times to put the game away.

Duncan, Greenway, Zac Fillers and Josh Hall each had two hits for Greeneville.

Things did not go as well for the Devils on Tuesday afternoon as they dropped a 2-1 thriller to Berkley, S.C.

The Devils took a 1-0 lead in the second inning behind a leadoff double by Jordan Greenway, who went to third on a wild pitch. After Cody Duncan walked, Greenway scored when pinch runner Eric Idell was stealing second.

Berkley took the lead and the win with two runs in the fifth inning on a couple of GHS errors and a hit.

Greenway had two doubles for the Devils while Trey Jaynes and Ryan Duncan each collected one hit.

Cody Duncan pitched well, giving up five hits and two runs in pitching six innings. Elliott Malone came in a worked a scoreless seventh inning.

Cyclones Top Buffs

ELIZABETHTON -- West Greene dropped a 12-2 decision to the homestanding Elizabethton Cyclones here Tuesday in a Watauga Conference baseball game.

The Cyclones took the lead in the second inning with a four-run uprising. The Buffs scored twice in the fourth to close to 5-2, but Elizabethton got those two runs back in the fifth then ended things with a five-run rally in the sixth.

Jake Davis had a double and single and Casey Crapps two singles for the Cyclones. Chris Dunbar and Wes Anderson each doubled.

West Greene was led by Chance Lamb with two singles while Jordan Davis and Jordan Ward each had a double.

The Buffs are now off until Monday when they visit Chuckey-Doak.
