Greeneville Care and Rehabilitation has a new name and a new administrator.

The 154-bed, skilled-care nursing facility, located on Holt Court, just off W. Church Street near W. Andrew Johnson Highway, has been renamed Signature HealthCARE of Greeneville.

The name change followed an internal buyout of the nursing home's owner and manager Home Quality Management. The company is now known as Signature HealthCARE, LLC.

"It was an internal buyout, and actually the only thing different about the company now is the name," said Jason Steen, who became the nursing home's new administrator in early January.

"Half of the partnership in the company was bought out, but everything else, including the company's philosophies and all the home office staff and the president are still the same," Steen said.

While the actual buyout occured in late November, the name change did not become official for the Greeneville nursing home until late February.

"(After the purchase) there had to be some legal work happen for each of the individual facilities, so it wasn't until the end of February when our legal name change became official for our facility here in Greeneville," Steen explained.

"Now it is up to us to get the word out about our name change," he added.

Based in Palm Beach, Fla., Signature HealthCARE owns and operates 62 facilities in five states. Most of the company's facilities are located in Tennessee, Florida and Kentucky, Steen said. However, there are a few facilities in North Carolina and Georgia.

Steen is a native of Rhea County, Tenn., who has been involved as a nursing home administrator since 1996. He is new to both Signature HealthCARE and to Greeneville.

Before accepting his new position as administrator of Signature HealthCARE of Greeneville, Steen said he was thinking of a career change outside of the health industry.

"I was actually pursuing my M.B.A. to help me transition into a new line of work, when I started hearing about Signature," Steen said.

He said the company's goals and philosophies toward health care are what made him decide to remain in this career.

In his previous role as a long-term care administrator, Steen said he had grown increasingly frustrated, seeing things that needed to be changed, but finding that they were not being done.

"Signature is actually putting all of their resources forward to make those changes, and so it made me really excited about health care again," Steen said.

According to the company's Web site, Signature HealthCARE's mission is "founded on the belief that enhancing the quality of life of our residents is essential. Humanity and dignity are achievable and our residents deserve the attention and commitment of dedicated, compassionate care providers."

Steen said the nursing home recently underwent a state inspection and received high marks.
