Newspaper Advertising Group Elects Wehenkel As President

Artie Wehenkel, advertising director for The Greeneville Sun, was elected president of the Mid-Atlantic Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives (N.A.M.E.) at its 2008 Winter Conference on March 17 in Charleston, S.C.

Wehenkel succeeded Bill Smith, ad director for The Free Lance-Star, of Fredericksburg, Va.

Sandy Fain, niche publications manager for The News & Observer, of Raleigh was elected executive vice president, and Ken Warren, advertising director for The Daily News in Jacksonville, N.C. was elected first vice president.

The Mid-Atlantic N.A.M.E. was incorporated in 1944 to promote a close working relationship among member newspapers in Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The association has its headquarters in Raleigh, N.C.

Greeneville Sun Awards

Also, The Greeneville Sun's advertising and composing departments won several awards at the annual conference in Charleston for outstanding creative advertising work. The awards were for, and include;

* 1st Place, Best ad or series featuring real estate, healthcare, financial, insurance or other professional service: "Free Will Baptist Ministries."

* 1st Place, Best ad or series featuring furniture, furnishings, appliances or hardware: "Ross Furniture and Bedding."

* 1st Place, Best ad or series promoting a newspaper's circulation, advertising, editorial or other departments: "Photos From Our Readers."

* 1st Place, Best ad or series published by a downtown council, shopping center, or community-wide group of merchants: "They Served"

* 1st Place, Best black & white ad: "Inn Style Boutique."

* 2nd Place, Best ad or series promoting a newspaper's circulation, advertising, editorial or other departments: "NIE"

* 3rd Place, Best ad or series promoting a newspaper: "Halloween Subscriptions."
