'Spring Fling' Saturday At Vol Speedway

BULLS GAP -- Pizza Plus presents the "Spring Fling" on Saturday, May 10 at Volunteer Speedway. A five-division racing program consisting of Super Late Model, Crate Late Model, Hobby Stock, Mini Stock, and IMCA Open Wheel Modified action is scheduled.

Greeneville's Jeff Maupin stands atop the Super Late Model points leaderboard, having recorded two top-five finishes. Trailing Maupin in points are Kerry Jones, Chad Ogle, Bobby Mays and Dale Ball. Both Mark Douglas and Stacy Boles have captured feature wins.

With three strong top-five finishes to his credit, Steve Jones of Maryville leads the Crate Late Model point standings over Kelly Glass, Todd Brooks, Josh Henry and Dale Ball. Jensen Ford, Jeff Maupin, Brad Hall and Kenny Peeples Jr. each have captured feature wins.

Morristown drivers Dustin Shaver and Mike Hodges are separated by only two points in the Hobby Stock standings, with Shaver on top of Hodges. Third through fifth, respectively in points, are Chuck Johnson, Ray Jarnigan and Dale Reed. Hodges has won two points-awarding features in 2008, with Shaver taking the checkers on one occasion.

Cosby's Joey Allen has been the Mini Stock dominator, having won four consecutive features to firmly plant him in the point lead over Toby Jones, John Broce Jr., Ernie Stubblefield and Terry Dean.

Jimmy Dalton of Knoxville leads the IMCA Open Wheel Modified points over Jerry Broyles, Wayne James, Jerry Fobare and Stanley Donahoo. Broyles has two feature wins to his credit, with James winning once.

Several prize giveaways will take place throughout the night. Saturday night one lucky fan in attendance at will win two tickets to the 2008 Indianapolis 500 at the famed Brickyard.

The pit gate will open Saturday at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gate at 5 p.m. Drivers' meeting will take place at 6:15 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m., to be followed by qualifying at 7:30 p.m., with feature racing getting the green flag around 8:30 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission $8, youth (ages 10-15) $4, children 9-and-under admitted free in the grandstands when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $25 for all ages.
