Greeneville High School's Drew Thomas has qualified for his second straight trip to the TSSAA State Track Meet.
The GHS senior will travel to Murfreesboro next week to compete in the state meet in the discus and the shot put.
Thomas was attempting to repeat as sectional champion in the discus but came up short to the 2006 sectional discus champion Ross Grabill from Karns High School. Thomas placed 2nd with a throw of 141'9". He punched his ticket in the shot put with a heave of 48'6" and a third place finish. Junior Jeremiah Sims finished 8th with a throw of 44'1".
On the girls side, sophomore Emily Reynolds finished in a tie for sixth in the high jump, clearing 4'8", and 8th in the long jump with a leap of 14'10". Senior Akema Beard closed out her career with an 8th place finish in the discus with a throw of 99'9".
Others competing in the event were; Tyler Ricker in the 3200 (10:11 personal record) and the 1600 (4:50); Matt Murphy, 1600 (4:52); Derrick Gibson, 1600 (5:00); Dylan Jones, 3200 (10:40) and 400 (57.77); Ashley Ellenberg, 3200 (12:23) and 1600 (5:50); and Alyssa Crum, shot put (28'8") and long jump (13'6").
