The annual Greeneville Nursing Home Week Parade, originally scheduled for this morning, has been postponed due to the weather until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Tuesday's parade will begin at Towne Square Shopping Center, going along Summer Street to Main Street, where it will turn left and conclude at the front lawn of the Greene County Courthouse. A brief program and balloon lift-off are scheduled.
The parade is scheduled each year to kick off the annual "National Nursing Home Week," which is being recognized this year through May 17.
The West Greene High School marching band and the South Greene Band were both scheduled to perform this morning at the parade. Unfortunately, both bands were unable to reschedule for Tuesday morning, according to Darrell Key, administrator of Laughlin Healthcare Center, this year's parade organizing facility.
Other originally scheduled parade participants, however, have said that they will take part in the rescheduled event, Key said.
These include: Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Greeneville Fire Department, the Greeneville Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the Greene County Color Guard, the U.S. Air Force Junior Reserve, the Greeneville Astros baseball team mascots and a clown group.
Residents and staff members from the local nursing homes are also scheduled to participate.
The public is invited to watch the parade. For more information, call 638-9226.
