Garland Green, a Tazewell, Va., resident and sophomore at Virginia Tech University, where he is a member of that school's golf team, shot a 1-under-par 71 Sunday and took the title at the annual Graysburg Hills Amateur Golf Tournament.
Combined with the opening round 68, Green's two-day total of 139 was one stroke better than defending champion Mike Freels (70-70--140).
Greeneville's Luke Fullen was third with a 142 total (69-73). He was tied with the eventual champion going into No. 16 Sunday but suffered a double bogey after his drive found the high grass on the par-5 hole.
Chris Dye was fourth at 143, and four golfers finished tied for fifth, including Greeneville's Tim Dinwiddie, a former champion.
