The Lawson
Mountain Mazda dealership relocated last Friday and Saturday to a new, much larger facility at 3305
E. Andrew Johnson Hwy.
The Mountain Mazda dealership previously was
situated not far away but across the road where E. Andrew Johnson Highway and Rufe Taylor Road
intersect.
The Lawson new Mazda facility is conveniently next door to
Lawson Chevrolet, which also is headed by Max Lawson and his son, Lennie
Lawson.
Other co-owners are Kent Bewley, Daniel Johnson and Susan
Holschuh.
The new facility was previously a John Deere store. However,
the building has been considerably remodeled and attractively
painted.
Lawson Mountain Mazda now includes, or will soon
include:
* 30,000 square feet of space, twice what the former location
had;
* a showroom that can display up to 15 cars, compared with a
four-car limit at the old location;
* a drive-in facility for motorists
to bring their damaged vehicles to receive free, prompt repair-cost
estimates;
* an auto repair shop with nine service
bays;
* a paint shop;
* a new combined
Chevrolet/Ford auto body shop;
* headquarters for a separate Consumer
Auto Finance Co.
* sales and administrative offices for the auto
dealership;
* a customers' waiting area with a TV and lounge
chairs.
While showing a reporter and photographer around the new
facility, Lennie Lawson enthusiastically said, "We're going to be specializing in repairing imported
cars."
He added, "We're excited because our Mazda dealership is now
next-door to our Chevrolet dealership."
They are connected by a new
service road, which makes it easier for those driving from Greeneville to turn left at a crossing in
the dual-lane highway, then drive directly to Lawson Chevrolet as well as Lawson Mountain Mazda.
The Mazda dealership has about 25 employees.
Lawson Mountain Mazda's
telephone number is 798-8888.
