Local 9-10 National Stars Advance In District Event

Greeneville's National League 9-10 year-old All-Stars have advanced to the finals of the winner's bracket of the District 4 Little League Tournament after a victory Monday night at Hardin Park's Optimist Field.

Greeneville National took a 4-3 victory over South Jefferson. Justin Casteel was winning pitcher. Peyton Gray had two singles, Quan Harrison and Logan Limburg a double each, and Steven Layman, Avery Weems and Tanner Barkley had singles.

Daniel Kirk and Andrew Briggs had two hits each for South Jefferson. Greeneville led 4-0 through five innings but South Jefferson rallied with their three runs in the sixth to make things interesting.

Greeneville National now advances to play Morristown National on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Rotary Field. Morristown National defeated Morristown American 10-0 as Aaron Rymer threw a no-hitter.

In loser's bracket games Monday at Rotary Field:

Greeneville American remained alive by shutting out Rogersville 17-0. Zane Britton, Leau Alston Williams and Joseph Jones combined to pitch a no-hitter.

Braxton Potter had two triples and a single to lead the winners, Joseph Jones had a double and two singles and Zane Britton collected two singles.

Greeneville American plays tonight at 6 p.m. against South Jefferson at Rotary Field. Jefferson City, who beat Smoky Mountain 11-8 Monday night, takes on Morristown American in the 8 p.m. game.

In games Saturday, Greeneville National advanced by beating Jefferson City 10-0. Tanner Barkley got the mound win by going the distance with a two-hitter. Barkley and Lincoln Bowman each had a double and two singles while Steven Layman had two doubles and a single.

Morristown National defeated Greeneville American 10-0. The locals managed only four hits, singles by Joseph Jones, Zane Britton, Braxton Potter and Cole Christopher.

Other Tournaments

In other tournaments involving the local all-star teams which have been reported by the coaches:

*The 15-16 Girls District began at the Old Field Monday. Morristown blanked Smoky Mountain 9-0 and they will play Greeneville tonight at 7 p.m.

*In the 11-year-old district at Dandridge, Greeneville's team was defeated by Newport 6-4. Drew Patterson and Garrison King each had two hits for the locals. Greeneville plays Wednesday at 7:45 in the loser's bracket.

*Greeneville's American League 12-year old squad defeated Smoky Mountain 11-0 Monday night at Morristown. They will play again tonight at 7:30 at Popkin Field. No score was received from the Greeneville National team.

*In the 13-14 tourney at Rogersville, Greeneville beat Morristown National 11-0 Monday as Jamison Painter threw a no-hitter and came within one batter of pitching a perfect game. Eric Lowery had a grand slam homer and a single, while Chance Lamb and Zack Britton each collected two hits. Greeneville moves on to play Newport tonight at 6 p.m.

*Greeneville's 11-12 softball team beat Smoky Mountain 11-2 on Saturday. Rachel Lamb was winning pitcher. Konnor Donahue had two doubles and Rachel Lamb had three singles.
