The Greeneville Historic Zoning Commission on Tuesday approved an addition to the home of Bill and Melinda Hickerson along N. Main Street.
Melinda Hickerson and the couple's contractor, Mark Collins of MAC Construction of Afton, showed plans for the project.
The addition will include a kitchen and family area, Melinda Hickerson said.
The addition will be located near the back of the house, off an existing garage, and will be partially visible from Main Street, according to Hickerson.
She said the addition will be built with brick, wood and concrete that will match the existing house and will be painted a matching white color.
Mrs. Hickerson said the roof of the existing home is slate, which would be too costly for the addition.
She said she looked at faux slate but thought it looked too fake, so she plans to use standing-seam metal in a matching grayish-green color.
The Hickersons' application was approved unanimously during the brief meeting.
"It looks like a wonderful plan," commission member Nancy Monger said.
