community college president with family ties to Greeneville was recently honored by his
college. Dr. William C. Aiken is president of Sampson Community College
in Clinton, N.C. On Aug. 22 the college's Occupational Building was named
for him. Larry Barnes, chairman of Sampson Community College's board of
trustees, said "Bill Aiken is a first-class visionary administrator committed to helping the
citizens of Sampson County receive a college education." Aiken came to
Sampson from the University of Tennessee where he served as chancellor for business and
finance. Dr. Aiken and his wife, the former Nita Warner, are frequent
visitors to Greeenville. where they have a number of relatives. Dr. Aiken
is the son of the late James Elmer "Red" Aiken and the late Mabel Curtis Aiken, both of
Greeneville.
