Tusculum College To Host 'Health & Fitness Fantasia'

Tusculum College will hold its eighth annual "Health and Fitness Fall Fantasia" on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Offered free to the public will be medical and health information and assessments of many types, demonstrations to include Tai Chi, and Zumba, as well as cooking demonstrations and a presentation on eating disorders.

The event be from 8 a.m. to 5 p. m. in the college's Niswonger Commons.

This year's event has been planned with "an extra effort to include the senior population," according to Tusculum College nurse Diane Hensley.

She said this year's expanded event will offer:

* increased awareness of health resources in the community;

* multiple areas of physical and mental health education and screening;

* preventive care information;

* alternative health/medicine sources;

* special presentations by experts in various health-related fields;

* physical fitness demonstrations for all ages, including the afore-mentioned Tai Chi and Zumba;

* information on healthy food choices, cooking ideas and preparation techniques;

* recognition of a health professional in the community who has taken special care of Tusculum College students through the years.

At noon, representatives of the University of Tennessee Breast Health Outreach Program will make a presentation about breast cancer awareness and offer a box lunch at no charge to anyone attending their presentation.

Advanced registration for this section is required and may be made by calling Diane Hensley at (423) 636-7499 or (423)798-7821 by Friday, Sept. 26.

Participating organizations are:

IndustriCare/Takoma Regional Hospital, Laughlin Memorial Hospital, Frontier Health and Nolachuckey Mental Health, Greene County Dept. of Health, UT Medical Center Cancer Institute, Rural Resources, Walgreens Pharmacy, Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Sam's Club, Mountain Region Donor Services, and the Social Security Administration.

Also, TTJC Karate, Medic Regional Blood Center, TENNderCare, AmeriChoice by United Health Care, Greeneville Dermatology, Coronary Health Improvement Project, National Kidney Foundation, Arbonne, Laser & Skin Center of Greeneville, Health Wrap, Chrysalis Weight Loss, American Cancer Association, American Heart & Stroke Association, Athena Day Spa, and the American Lung Association.

Also, Corley's Pharmacy, Curves for Women, New Attitude, Smokey Mountain Health and Hospice, Tusculum College Athletic Student Society and the Athletic Training department, Student Health Services, Tusculum College Counseling Services Depression Screening, Greeneville Eye Care Center, and Accu-Chek.
