Old Mountain Campground in Camp Creek has become the first Greene County business to be named an "EcoCertified Business" " for improving its air and water systems with the technology of EcoQuest Internatonal, a Greeneville-based company.
Their certification was presented by representatives of EcoQuest International, in a recent ceremony at the campground. EcoQuest President Mike Letts was on hand to congratulate Mike and Sherry Brobeck, owners of the campground.
Mike Brobeck said the campground has 30 full hookups for camping trailers and 20 tent camping sites. Four cabins are under construction, he said.
In addition, he said, the campground has a swimming pool, a stage for entertainment, a restaurant and horseback riding trails.
The Brobecks said they first began to explore the EcoQuest technology in an effort to reduce ever-increasing electrical costs at the campground.
They began with the installation of PowerwoRx, which provides electrical surge protection and electrical noise filtration, with the added benefit of increased electrical efficiency that can provide energy savings.
"We initially were concerned with reducing our power bill, but when we learned about the other products and what they could do, we decided to complete the process," said Sherry Brobeck.
"We are very concerned about our impact on the environment and also about the quality of our air, water and food that make a better experience for our campers."
The success of PowerwoRx led to their efforts to become EcoCertified. To that end, the Brobecks installed a variety of equipment to purify the air and water in their cafe and bathhouses, as well as to reduce food contamination, airborne grease and odors.
They installed several of EcoQuest's air purification units, including two Fresh Air by EcoQuest units.
Water purification equipment was also installed to improve the quality of water and ice used by the establishments.
The Living Water purifier combines three technologies: ozone, ultraviolet light exposure and photo-oxidation, and high-density activated carbon block filtration.
The process kills bacteria, and reduces lead, solvents, chlorine and other chemicals from drinking water, ccording to an EcoQuest press srelease.
EcoQuest International, which decribes itself as "a healthy living technology company," employs more than 400 people locally, and has tens of thousands of independent distributors.
