Local events
scheduled this weekend throughout Greeneville and Greene County offer a wide variety of
entertainment for all ages.
Among the larger community events are the
Battle of Blue Springs reenactment, the Miss Greene County Scholarship Pageant and the Wings &
Wheels on the Greene fly-in and car show at the Greeneville-Greene County Municipal
Airport.
Other events include the annual Household Hazardous Waste
Collection Day and fall festivals at Baileyton and DeBusk elementary schools.
Battle of Blue Springs
The annual Battle of Blue Springs on
the John I. Myers farm in Mosheim begins Friday, Oct. 10, with Education Day for
schools.
Civil War battle reenactments will be held Saturday and Sunday,
Oct. 11-12.
The Town of Mosheim is the principal sponsor of the event,
with additional funding provided this year by the National Park Service and the Andrew Johnson
Bicentennial Steering Committee.
Tickets to the Battle of Blue Springs
can be purchased at the gate.
Tickets are $7 for ages 12 and older, $5
for children ages 7-11 and free for children ages 6 and younger. Scouts in Uniform get $1 off
admission.

Mosheim.

Fly-In, Car Show
The Wings & Wheels on the Greene free
fly-in and car show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the
airport.
The Greeneville chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association
(EAA) is sponsoring the event, while the Greeneville-Greene County Aviation Association is hosting
the fly-in, and the Volunteer State Auto Club is hosting the car show portion of the
program.
The EAA, through its "Young Eagles" program, will provide free
airplane rides to youngsters between the ages of 8 and 17 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and again
between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Adult airplane rides also will be available
during the event.
A skydiving demonstration will be conducted from noon
to 1 p.m., followed by a demonstration by the crew of a Tennessee Highway Patrol "special
operations" helicopter.
A number of "special aircraft," including
military aircraft, will be on display during the day-long event.
Veteran
Morristown flight instructor Evelyn "Mama Bird" Johnson will be on hand to sign copies of her
book.
The event also will include Emergency Medical Service
demonstrations, food and free entertainment.

Miss Greene
County
The Miss Greene County Scholarship Pageant with nine
competitors will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Niswonger Performing Arts
Center.
Last year's winner, Erin Collins, will crown the winner. Collins
was chosen the first Miss Greene County in 13 years during a December competition and represented
Greene County at the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant in June.
The Miss
Tennessee Pageant is a preliminary to the Miss America
Pageant.
Entertainment for the Miss Greene County event will be provided
by Bob Bradley and Lesa's School of Dance dancers.
American Patriot Bank
is the $1,500 scholarship sponsor.
Tickets may be purchased at NPAC and
cost $20 for a V.I.P. ticket, $12 for adults and $6.50 for children ages 10 and younger. For

DeBusk Festival
DeBusk Elementary School will have its first-ever Braves Day festival on Friday
and Saturday, Oct. 10-11.
The event is sponsored by the DeBusk Booster
Club.
On Friday, booths will be open to the public from 4 p.m. to
dark.
Inflatables and dancing for kids will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
Friday with $8 admission for all attractions.
Registration for a
cruise-in car show will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, with a $10 fee per car. The car show will be
held from 5 to 8 p.m., and the award will be presented at 8:30 p.m.
On
Saturday, the booths will be open from 8 a.m. to dark.
Registration for
the 9 a.m. five-kilometer road race will be held at 8 a.m., with a $10 fee in advance and a $12 fee
the day of the race.
Registration for the 9 a.m. Motorcycle Ride to Hot
Springs, N.C., will be held at 8:30 a.m., with a $10 fee per bike.
A
beauty pageant will be held at 10 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Registration will be held at 9 a.m.
with entry fees of $25 for beauty and $15 for photogenic. Admission to the pageant is
$2.
A variety of entertainers will perform on the entertainment stage,
including: Winter & Company dance studio, noon; South Greene High School Band, 1 p.m.; Dance
& More, 2 p.m.; Strong Ties bluegrass-gospel, 3 p.m.; Casteel Children Singing, 4 p.m.; and
gospel groups Newborn Soul, 5 p.m. and One Purpose, 6 p.m.
The event also
will feature three-on-three basketball tournaments for $15 per team and an adult volleyball
tournament for $10 per person.
A wide variety of food will be
available.

Baileyton Festival
Baileyton
Elementary School will have its annual Fall Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct.
11.
The event is sponsored by the Baileyton Elementary
Association.
The event will feature games, inflatables, a hayride, food,
apple-butter making, face-painting, hair-painting, a bake sale and a bingo
game.
Proceeds from several of the activities will go to various
participating classrooms at Baileyton.
The North Greene High School Band
Boosters will have a booth at the festival.
A Pumpkin Recipe Contest will
be held. Entries for $5 each must be made at 10 a.m.
A drawing from
tickets previously purchased for a stainless-steel grill will be held at
noon.
On Saturday night, the Northside football team will sponsor a Rook
tournament for $10 a team. Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the football
team.

Household Waste Collection
The state's annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held in Greene
County on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Hal Henard School in
Greeneville.
Keep Greene Beautiful is coordinating the local event that
is sponsored statewide by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation
(TDEC).
