Baileyton Beats BG; GMS Splits, C-D Sweeps

Baileyton took two wins over visiting Bulls Gap Tuesday night, while Greeneville Middle School split at Rutledge. On Monday night, Chuckey-Doak Middle won two games over visiting Providence Academy.

Dragons Sweep Bulldogs

The Baileyton girls and boys stepped outside the league to take on Bulls Gap Tuesday and got wins in both games.

The Baileyton girls won 36-24 as Mendy McNeese scored 14 points and Gabrielle Collins netted 11. Katea Manis scored eight points for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Dragons led by only one, 15-14, at intermission, and the game was still tight at 24-20 entering the fourth period. But Baileyton outscored their visitors 12-4 down the stretch to pull away.

In the boys game, Baileyton captured a 50-38 victory, as Tyler Bailey bombed in four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, and Ethan Smith added 13. Shawn Bond had a game-high 22 points for the Bulldogs.

Baileyton went flat in the second quarter after leading 18-7 and saw the Bulldogs knot things up 22-22 by intermission. But a 15-5 scoring surge in the third pulled the home team back in front.

Girls

Bulls Gap (24): Shipley 5, Katea Manis 8, Bell 6, Thacker 5.

Baileyton (36): Guelli 2, Bailey 9, Gabrielle Collins 11, Mendy McNeese 14.

GMS Boys Top Rutledge

Greeneville Middle School opened the season Tuesday with a trip to Rutledge and came away with a split of the twin-bill.

The GMS boys earned a 55-26 victory, led by Corey Waddell with 15 points and Landon Duncan with 12. Brandon Brogden scored nine for the Pioneers.

GMS led by only 13-12 at the first rest stop, but they outscored their hosts 13-2 in the second frame to pull away.

Rutledge won the girls game but a boxscore had not been reported as of presstime.

GMS will be at home to Meadow View on Thursday night.

Knights Down Providence

Chuckey-Doak Middle School picked up a pair of easy wins over the visiting Providence Academy Monday night.

The Lady Knights coasted to a 40-8 win after taking a 12-2 first quarter advantage. Hannah Riddle scored 22 points for Chuckey-Doak.

In the boys game, the Knights led the visitors 12-1 after one quarter and went on to a 58-25 victory. Garrett Johnson led the way with 4 points for the Knights.

In the boys junior varsity game, C-D won 32-21. Garren Taylor scored 12 for C-D.

Girls

Providence (8): Wills 3, Hill 2, Allen 1, Harrod 2.

Chuckey-Doak (40): Hannah Riddle 22, Patsel 2, Brown 5, Hopson 2, Murphy 9.
