Two women were taken by ambulance to Laughlin
Memorial Hospital following a Friday afternoon two-vehicle crash on Asheville Highway at Flag Branch
Road.
Deputy Sheriff Charles Jessie said the collision occurred at 5:44
p.m., when a 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by David Baker, 18, of Bill Shaw Road, Afton, attempted to
turn from Asheville Highway onto Flag Branch Road.
In attempting the
turn, Jessie said, the Jeep pulled across the path of a northbound 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by
Lester Davis, 67, of Doyle Davis Road.
Female passengers in both vehicles
were injured, according to Deputy Jessie.
A 17-year-old unidentified girl
was a passenger in the Jeep, and Lester Davis' passenger was Josephine Davis, 67.
Both were taken by ambulance to Laughlin Memorial Hospital for treatment
of what were thought to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Responding to
the scene were units of the South Greene Volunteer Fire Department and the Greeneville Emergency
& Rescue Squad.
