Driving On Revoked/Suspended License Charged -- Joanna Lee Melton, 36, of 3809 Chuckey Highway, Limestone, was arrested and charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license by Greene County Deputy Sheriff Chuck Humphreys on Dec. 29, according to a report by Humphreys. The deputy stopped Melton for speeding around 11:30 a.m. on the Asheville Highway near DeBusk Road, the report stated. Melton was driving 58 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to Humphreys' report. When he checked Melton's license for validity, it was found to be suspended in Tennessee, Humphreys wrote. Melton was also issued two citations: for speeding, and not having car insurance.
Public Intoxication -- Casey Troy Yarbrough, 24, of 230 West Sevier Heights Apt. 1, was arrested for public intoxication on Dec. 29 after the sheriff's department received a call around 8:30 p.m. of a prowler at 402 Tusculum Blvd., according to a report by Greeneville Officer Rick Burgner. In the report, Burgner stated that upon arrival at that address, he saw Yarbrough walking away, stopped him and requested proof of his identity. Yarbrough "was unsteady on his feet and smelled strongly of alcohol. When asked about drinking, he stated he had drunk a pint of liquor approximately two hours ago," Burgner wrote. Burgner arrested Yarbrough and charged him with public intoxication because Yarbrough "was a threat to his own safety walking near traffic," the report stated.
Violation Of Probation Alleged -- Roy Adams, 44, of 1140 West Irish Street, was arrested Dec. 29 by Greeneville Police Department Officer Jackie Tweed and charged with violation of probation, according to a report by Tweed. No bond was set. Adams was scheduled to make his first court appearance Dec. 31, according to the report.
DUI, Other Charge In Arrest -- John F. Hewitt, 32, of 140 River Shadow Drive in Rogersville, was arrested Dec. 30 by Greene County Deputy Sheriff Howard Gale and charged with DUI, another charge and issued a speeding citation, according to a report by Gale. The deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Hewitt at approximately 1:30 a.m. for going 81 mph in a 55 mph speed zone on U.S. 11-E, the report said. Gale wrote that "upon talking to defendant (Hewitt), I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his person and his speech was slurred." Hewitt "admitted to drinking beer prior to speeding" and "performed poorly" on standard field sobriety tests, according to Gale's report. Gale wrote that he arrested Hewitt "for his safety and that of the public." Hewitt later "agreed to submit to an intoximeter test that was offered" at 2:28 a.m., 2:50 a.m. and 2:52 a.m., Gale wrote. Hewitt, however, "failed to listen and properly follow instructions given, resulting in an insufficient sample reading," and was charged with "violation (of the) implied consent law," according to the report. Hewitt was also issued a misdemeanor speeding citation and ordered to appear in General Sessions Court on Jan. 5, 2009.
Domestic Assault Charged -- Dontae Aniton Thompson, 24, who gave his home address as 100 South Rufe Taylor Road, was arrested by Greeneville Police Department Officer David Lewis at that address on Dec. 30 and charged with domestic assault, according to a report by Lewis. The officer wrote in the report that on that date, at approximately 2 a.m., officers arrived at the residence to investigate a 911 hang-up. 911 had advised the police department that in a call 911 received earlier, they heard fighting and a child in the background, the report stated. Lewis, accompanied by GPD officers David Shell and Rick Burgner, spoke to a woman in an apartment at that address who said "she had made a mistake, and that she was fine," Lewis wrote in his report. Lewis then spoke to a small child and was told the woman and Thompson "were fighting and that he'd (Thompson) choked" the woman. The woman said she and Thompson had been drinking "and that they had been fighting. She had been crying and said that she was scared when she called 911." Thompson was then arrested and charged with domestic assault, the report stated.
Assault Charged In Arrest -- Wiley Willey, 23, of 338 Brown Ave., was arrested around 1 p.m. on Dec. 29 by Greene County Deputy Sheriff Michelle Holt and charged with assault of a woman at the same address after the woman said Willey hit her in the head and body with his fists during an argument, Holt's report said. Two witnesses, possibly related to the victim, were listed in the report. The arrest was made around 1 p.m.
Vandalism/Property Damage Alleged -- Mariah Perkins, 16, of 406 Dyer Circle, said that while in a vehicle at the intersection of Paul Pettit Road and Mt. Hope Road in Mohawk, a woman Perkins identified allegedly fired shots with a firearm, including some bullets that hit her vehicle, according to a report by Greene County Deputy Sheriff Michelle Holt. The deputy reported that the alleged offender admitted that she and several others, including children, were outside their residence on Paul Pettit Road "playing with a pellet gun, shooting at a target," Holt wrote in her report. Holt wrote that damage to one of the car's doors was consistent with a BB. Damage to Perkins' 1994 Honda Accord from possible BB shots was estimated at $150, the report stated. The victim had one witness, and the alleged offender had four witnesses, according to Holt's report. No arrests were made, the report stated.
Burglary, Vandalism Alleged -- Elmer Adcox, 62, of Cooter Lane, said a person, or persons, entered his residence Dec. 29 after throwing a rock through a rear window of the house between 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on that day while he was gone, according to a report by Greene County Deputy Sheriff Travis Hoxie. Several items with a total value of $1,190 were stolen, according to the report. The deputy sheriff wrote in his report that items stolen from Adcox's residence and their value were: a 12-gauge Remington shotgun ($500), a .38 S&W pistol ($400), change of $100, watch ($20) and vodka ($20). The damaged window was valued at $150, Hoxie reported.
