The Johnson City Police Department is attempting "to make all businesses aware of a scam going on" in that city.

"Investigators of the Johnson City Police Department are currently investigating a fraud/scam involving a suspect allegedly soliciting advertisements to go in an upcoming University of Tennessee calendar," police said. "The suspect may have identified himself [as] affiliated with a company known as Dreams Unlimited."

The news release said the suspect will request cash or check and will request the check be made payable directly to him.

"The suspect will then keep the money and not deliver any merchandise ordered.

"The University of Tennessee, nor Dreams Unlimited, has no knowledge or connection with the suspect soliciting advertisements and has not authorized the subject to do so," police said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-40s with black hair, about 6-foot-2-inches tall and weighs between 220 and 250 pounds.

He has been wearing an orange sweater with white stripes, according to the news release.

Anyone who has had contact with this suspect, or has been victimized, should contact invesigator Michael Barron with the Johnson City Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit at (423) 434-6113 or 434-6166.
