Grand Jury Returns Indictments Of 23

A Greene County grand jury that met on Monday at the Greene County Courthouse returned indictments against a number of persons on a variety of charges.

Among those indicted were:

* Justin Lee Roark, 23, of 112 S. Sunset Street, who was indicted on a charge of felony escape in connection with a Sept. 9, 2008, incident in which he allegedly escaped from the Greene County Detention Center after having been convicted of a felony.

* Terry James McClellan, 52, of 134 Copas Road, Apartment 14, Kingsport, who was indicted on a charge of DUI (5th offense) in connection with a March 31, 2008, traffic stop by Deputy Sheriff David Beverly.

* Brittney Benton, 19, of 875 Bailey Street, Baileyton, who was indicted on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury and driving without a valid license on Feb. 16, 2008.

* Christopher Lee Jones, 38, of 1415 Bill Jones Road, Greeneville, who was indicted on charges of DUI (2nd offense) and violating the implied consent law on Feb. 5, 2009.

* Randy Allen Harris, 50, of 708 Carson Street, who was indicted on a charge of promotion of methamphetamine manufacture by permitting others to use property that he owned or had control of while knowing the person intended to use the structure to manufacture methamphetamine on April 3, 2009.

* Gary Walsh, 46, of 206 Hall Street, Greeneville, who was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault in connection with a Feb. 7, 2009, incident in which he allegedly attempted to stab Michael Walsh with a knife.

* Crystal Lynn Whittenmore, 27, of 89 Freshour Park, who was indicted on three counts of child neglect on or about May 1, 2009, involving children under the age of six who allegedly were exposed to "extremely unsanitary living conditions, unattended illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia.

* Kenneth Eugene Cole, 38, of 10252 Kingsport Highway, who was indicted on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in connection with a Dec. 19, 2008, incident by displaying a 20-gauge shotgun and firing a shotgun blast from inside a mobile home through an exterior wall.

* Linda Kay Tweed, 56, of 70 Rheatown Road, Chuckey, who was indicted on a three counts of aggravated assault and one count of filing a false report in connection with an Oct. 15, 2008, incident by displaying a handgun and falsely telling law enforcement officers that she did not have a handgun.

* Oliver Wayne Stanton, 34, of 190 Kite Road, who was indicted on a charge of DUI on Sept. 14, 2008,

* Willard Lee Cutshaw, 35, of 200 McAfee Road, Afton, who was indicted on charges of speeding and violation of the motor vehicle Habitual Offender Act on Dec. 30, 2008.

* Barbara Sue Hartsock, 49, of 2217 Glenburn Road, Apt. 12, Kingsport, who was indicted on charges of DUI, violating the implied consent law and possessing drug paraphernalia on Feb. 25, 2009.

* Christopher Allen Brotherton, 23, of 5094 Kingsport Highway, who was indicted on charges of aggravated assault and two counts of child endangerment in connection with a Jan. 11, 2009, incident in which he allegedly crashed a Chevrolet Tahoe into a Jeep Grand Cherokee occupied by an adult and two children.

* Richard C. Carver, 25, of Jonesborough, who was indicted on a charge of theft of property valued at over $1,000 and owned by Grand Rental Station on July 19, 2007.

* Sammy W. Hensley, 44, of 7953 Andrew Johnson Highway, Mosheim, who was indicted on a charge of violating the motor vehicle habitual offender act on March 3, 2009.

* Michael J. Bowlin, 32, of 181 Mt. Pleasant Lane, who was indicted on charges of aggravated burglary, violating an order of protection and assault on Nov. 19, 2008.

* Daniel Skii Schofield, 27, of 410 Phillipi Road, Mohawk, who was indicted on charges of possession of a controlled substance (69 Oxycodone tablets) with intent to sell or deliver them and possession of drug paraphernalia on March 7, 2009.

* Randall E. Seaton, 47, of 410 Haney Hill Road, who was indicted on a charge of forgery on March 8, 2009.

* Crystal Dawn Haston, 25, of 1300 Quillen Shell Road, Afton, who was indicted on a charged of theft of property over $10-,000 but less than $60,000 on Jan. 22, 2009.

* Taylor Joseph Stapleton, 26, of 6295 Old Snapps Ferry Road, Limestone, who was indicted on charges of aggravated burglary and theft of property valued at over $10,000, but less than $60,000 owned by Steve Dickman on Jan. 18, 2009.

* Martha S. West, 33, of 49 Indian Hills, Apt. 212, who was indicted on a charge of violation of the Tennessee Adult Protection Act by knowingly exploiting a retarded adult by exercising control over a $1,455 check and cashing it on Oct. 24, 2008.

* James Dean Tolliver, 45, of 691 Campbell Circle, Chuckey, who was indicted on a charge of theft of property valued at over $500 on Feb. 19, 2009, including a Motorola cell phone and a Samsung digital video camera owned by Patricia Thornton.

* Gene L. Loptien, Jr., 37, of 75 Mountain View Drive, Mosheim, who was indicted on two counts each of aggravated burglary and theft of property valued at over $1,000 between April 9 and April 23 and April 25, 2009, in connection with burglaries of the Andrea Disney residence and the theft of property owned by Disney.

ONE NOT INDICTED

In addition, the grand jury declined to indict Douglas M. Havens, 34, of 231 Lofty Heights, Greeneville, on a charge of aggravated assault in connection with a Feb. 15, 2009, incident in which he allegedly pepper-sprayed Andrew Smith.
