Greene County
sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting incident late Thursday outside a Dyer Hollow Road
residence that seriously injured a man.
Sheriff Steve Burns said this
morning that Lee Matthew Wolfe, 22, of Lonesome Pine Trail, was wounded by a gunshot allegedly fired
by Wolfe's mother-in-law, Ann Bryant.
Burns said Wolfe was flown to the
Johnson City Medical Center late Thursday for treatment of his injuries.
A nursing supervisor this morning said Wolfe was in critical condition
at the JCMC.
The sheriff said Wolfe apparently had gone to Bryant's 708
Dyer Hollow Road residence in the Mohawk community late Thursday in an attempt to speak with his
estranged wife.
Burns said the couple was outside the residence when
Wolfe's mother-in-law "became concerned," went outside and then fired a
shot.
It was unclear this morning, the sheriff said, whether Ann Bryant
was attempting to fire a warning shot or to shoot Wolfe.
Burns said
deputies found Wolfe lying behind a garage near the Dyer Hollow residence suffering from an injury
to his head.
Wolfe, the sheriff said, told officers that he had been
shot by his mother-in-law.
The sheriff said detectives are still
investigating. No charges had been placed.
