Members of the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad attended the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads annual convention in Pigeon Forge this Monday and today.

During the convention, GE&RS members competed in several events, including:

* vehicle extrication, in which the GE&RS convention team composed of Darr Summers, Tim Bitner, Brian Poole, Jeremiah Taylor, Amber Smith and alternate Brent Perry took part;

* the rescue cart race, in which Jeremiah Taylor, and Christy Williams won second place;

* the medical care competition, in which David Franklin, Amber Smith, Bobby Darnell, Jeremiah Taylor, and Darr Summers took part;

* the driving competition, in which Brian Poole, Darr Summers and Dale Dodds took first place;

* the horseshoe competion, in which Bobby Matthews and Tim Bitner took part;

* the turnout gear relay race in which Darr Summers, Jeremiah Taylor and Amber Smith took first place; and

* the scrapbook competion, in which Amber Smith took second place.

On Oct. 3, the TARS Memorial Service was held for deceased members across the state. GE&RS member Ronnie Fillers, who died in June, was recognized during the service.

Kevin "Bucky" Ayers also was elected to a second term as TARS Region1 Vice President. The Region I Vice President serves 19 Rescue Squads from Jefferson City to Mountain City and arranges for manpower assistance on calls that require more personnel than local squads have available.
