Baileyton, West Pines, Mosheim, Blazers Collect County Doubleheader Victories

Baileyton, West Pines, Mosheim and Nolachuckey picked up Greene County Elementary League doubleheader wiins Thursday night.

Chuckey-Doak split with visiting Hampton in a Little Watauga Conference contest. Camp Creek and Towering Oaks also divided a twin-bill.

BAILEYTON SWEEPS BRAVES

The homestanding Baileyton Dragons took both ends of a twin-bill from visiting DeBusk Thursday night.

Baileyton's girls won 33-25, leading the entire way with the Braves keeping it within reach. The Dragons led 18-11 at intermission and 29-21 after three stanzas.

Mendy McNeese pumped in 23 points for Baileyton. Sarah Luttrell and Lorena Leon each scored six for DeBusk.

The Baileyton boys had few problems, winning 60-33 after pulling ahead 18-4 after one period. Tyler Bailey had 20 points and Tanner Collins 13 for the Dragons. Jonathan Zavaletta had 14 points and Dillon Yates nine for DeBusk.

PANTHERS WIN PAIR

The West Pines Panthers won two games Thursday in a visit to the McDonald Hornets.

The Lady Panthers took the opener 31-19, led by Katelyn Weems with 10 points. Rebecca Long scored eight for McDonald.

West Pines took an 18-8 halftime lead and never trailed.

The West Pines boys were also winners by a 39-11 verdict. Dustin Weems had 13, while Brett Bolton and Zack Potter scored 10 each for the Panthers. Justin Pinkston with four points guided McDonald.

West Pines bolted to a 15-3 halftime advantage.

MOSHEIM BEATS OTTWAY

Mosheim went to Ottway Thursday and came away with a pair of victories.

The Mosheim girls won 47-22, pulling away in the third quarter after holding a slender 19-15 halftime edge.

Megan Lamb scored 13 and Kristen Johnson 12 for the Lady Indians. Kansas Foster tallied eight points for Ottway.

The boys game went to Mosheim 50-14, who struggled to a 6-4 first quarter lead, then piled up 18 points in the second frame on the way to a 24-6 lead.

Tanner Early and Austin Greenlee each scored eight points for Mosheim. Ethan Harmon and Austin Johnson scored four points apiece for Ottway.

BLAZERS DOWN GLENWOOD

The Nolachuckey Blazers earned a doubleheader sweep Thursday in a visit to Glenwood.

The Lady Blazers jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead on the way to a 50-14 victory. Alora Ricker pumped in 16 points and Peyton Williams added 11 for the winners. Glenwood got three points from Amber Jones.

The Nolachuckey boys also won handily, 54-19, leading 14-6 after one period and 33-14 at intermission.

Cody Robinson led the Blazers with 19 points and Todd Neas chipped in with 12. Cody Waddell, Shawn Crum and Joe Colby had four points each for Glenwood.

KNIGHTS, HAMPTON SPLIT

Chuckey-Doak Middle School hosted Hampton Thursday and the two Little Watauga Conference foes split a twin-bill.

Hampton took the opener by a 32-15 margin as H. Inick and Olivera scored eight points each. Haley Taylor with six led Chuckey-Doak.

The Knights led 11-9 at intermission, but Hampton came out strong to control the second half of play.

The boys game went to Chuckey-Doak 45-39 as Jared Meredith and Garren Taylor each scored 12 points. Crain scored 12 points for Hampton.

C-D led by only 26-25 after three quarters, but outscored their visitors 19-14 in the final period.

In junior varsity games, Hampton won the girls 29-17. Andi Lamb had five to lead the Lady Knights. Hampton also won the boys by a 39-36 margin. Jordan Carter scored 22 for C-DMS.

TOCS, BEARS DIVIDE

Towering Oaks hosted Camp Creek Thursday night and the two schools divided the doubleheader.

Camp Creek won in girls by a 50-15 margin. Cheyenne Upton scored 16 points and Jaelyn Shoemaker added 11 for the Lady Bears. Lexi Runion had nine points for Towering Oaks.

Towering Oaks captured the win in the boys game, 45-9. Preston Shuffler fired in 20 points, Logan Davis had 12 and Matthew Collins added 11. Nolan Gilliam with five points led Camp Creek.
