A woman accused of robbing the since-closed Medicine Shoppe pharmacy on Tusculum Boulevard in broad daylight last July 3 pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court here on Monday to robbery of the pharmacy and to carrying and brandishing a firearm while doing so.
U.S. District Judge Ronnie Greer, who accepted the guilty pleas of Samantha Jo Arwood, 31, of 127 Whispering Lane, Greeneville, set a sentencing hearing for her on July 12 in U.S. District Court in Greeneville.
Arwood had been indicted by a federal jury in Greeneville last July 14 in connection with the July 3 robbery.
One count of the indictment that will be dismissed at sentencing under a plea agreement reached in the case between the U.S. Attorney's office and Tim Moore, Arwood's defense attorney, had alleged that she obstructed interstate commerce by carrying out the robbery.
Arwood originally was charged in state court by Greeneville police with aggravated robbery.
But GPD Lt. Tim Hartman, who had arrested Arwood inside the pharmacy while the robbery was in progress on July 3, filed a federal criminal complaint against her as well on Monday, July 6.
