Six North Greene High School Future Farmers of America members attended the National FFA Convention Oct. 23-27.

Ethan Starnes, Zachary Cochran, Emaline Willis, Emily Casteel, Blake Cochran, and Leighton Casteel joined 68,000 other FFA members from across the nation and participated in leadership workshops and general sessions at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

At the event, five NGHS FFA members were recognized for receiving their American FFA Degrees at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Oct. 27, a news release says.

This is the highest degree awarded FFA members and less than 1 percent of all members receive this award. The award is based on an outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience program, active FFA involvement, and community service.

NGHS FFA members who received their American degrees were Sam Bledsoe, Bekah Jones, Hayden Joyner, Chase Poe and Jacob Willis.

Poe and Willis had the opportunity to attend the National FFA Convention and receive their degree from the National FFA President Breanna Holbert in person.

At the convention, they listened to retiring addresses from National FFA officers and a presentation from the U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

NGHS FFA members attended a Garth Brooks concert at the Lucas Oil Stadium. The group also attended a FFA Career Fair and Expo at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

They visited Fair Oaks Farm in Northwest Indiana and toured their state of the art swine and dairy facilities.

Afterward, NGHS FFA members thanked NGHS administration and staff, NGHS FFA Alumni, Greene County Schools Administration, Board of Education and Career and Technical Education Department, and Emily Poe, who served as female chaperone and assisted with transportation.
