A 2-year-old Parrottsville boy died Saturday after being savagely bitten by his family's bulldog.
Malcolm Ray "Cody" Morelock was pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County after the noon incident on Saturday.
The boy had been playing in the yard of his home at 669 Saint Tide Hollow Road on Saturday when his stepsister, Harmony Johnson, 12, noticed that he had left the home, according to Detective Bryan Murr of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department.
Murr reported that Harmony Johnson woke up her 14-year-old sister, Melanie, and the two went looking for Cody, finally finding him and the family dog - a bulldog mix - under a pickup truck at the end of the driveway to the residence.
Murr said the dog was usually secured by a chain, but had gotten loose before the attack.
The two girls went to awaken their parents, David and Peggy Johnson, who called Quality Care Ambulance Service and then got the child from under the truck.
Detective Murr reported that the child was still alive when the ambulance arrived, but the boy was declared dead in the emergency room of Baptist Hospital.
The child died of "extensive facial damage due to dog bites," Murr said.
The dog was killed by the child's stepfather.
