Michael B. Calloway, 48, of 620 N. Irish St., was charged Tuesday night by Greeneville police with driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. Police went to the area of East Andrew Johnson Highway and South Rufe Taylor Road on a report of a Ford Mustang being operated by a possibly intoxicated driver. The car was located eastbound on U.S. 11E, Officer Dustin Winter said in a report. The car, driven by Calloway, was seen crossing a yellow line and drifting out of its lane and correcting. Following a traffic stop, Calloway gave off an odor of alcohol. He did poorly on field sobriety tests, the report said. A records check showed his driver’s license was suspended. Bond for Calloway was set at $1,000 pending an appearance Wednesday in court.

Billy A. Mathes, 40, of 82 Lakeshore Park, was charged about 6 p.m. Tuesday by Greeneville police with possession of a Schedule II drug. Police responded to the 100 block of Holt Court on a warrants check and spoke with Mathes, who was carrying a backpack that contained small wooden box with suspected methamphetamine inside, Officer Kevin Guinn said in a report. Bond was set for $1,000 pending a first scheduled appearance Wednesday in court.

Kevin Ray Burkey, 22, of 235 W. Allens Bridge Road, was charged Tuesday morning by the Tennessee Highway Patrol with possession of drug paraphernalia. Burkey was driving a sport utility vehicle on U.S. 321 near Route 70 without wearing a seat belt when a traffic stop was made, Trooper Jordan Ensor said in a report. Troopers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the SUV. Burkey was asked if he had any marijuana and handed a trooper a glass pipe with residue inside, the report said. A grinder containing suspected marijuana was found inside the center console. Burkey has a first scheduled appearance Wednesday in court.

Kevin Eugene Mitchell, 41, listed as homeless but being from Johnson City, was taken into custody Tuesday by sheriff’s deputies on active arrest warrants. Mitchell was charged for theft over $1,000 but less than $2,500, parties to the offense of theft over $1,000 but less than $2,500, parties to the offense of aggravated burglary and parties to the offense of theft over $1,000 but less than $2,500. On Nov. 30, 2017, Mitchell allegedly entered a house in the 500 block of Maupin Road in Chuckey and took tools, clothing and other possessions, Detective Sgt. Jimmy Morgan said in a report. Also on Nov. 30, 2017, Mitchell allegedly acted acted as a lookout while others he was with entered a house on Old Baxter Road and stole various possession worth a total of $5,760, the report said. Bond for Mitchell was set at $25,000 pending a first scheduled appearance Wednesday in court.

A burglary between Friday and Monday at a house in the 100 block of Smith Lane is being investigated by sheriff’s deputies. The homeowner said he and his wife were away, and when they returned home Tuesday, a relative told them suspects came to the house and spoke with him, stating that they had permission to change clothing for a job interview, Deputy Chad Moore said in a report. A 9mm Kimber pistol was stolen from a bedroom dresser, the report said. The handgun is valued at $1,000.
