Fire early today destroyed a single-wide mobile home at 175 Fishpond Road in Chuckey, sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Christy said in a report.

Deputies arrived on scene shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday and found the single-wide trailer “heavily damaged by the fire and still burning,” the report said.

Firefighters from the Tusculum and Nolichuckey volunteer fire departments on scene extinguishing the flames. No injuries were reported.

Resident Christopher Shanks, 24, told deputies that he, his girlfriend and their 5-month daughter got out of the burning trailer safely.

Shanks told deputies he heard what sounded like glass breaking and went into a rear bedroom, where he saw an electric panel box “glowing red,” the report said. A blanket on top of the panel box had caught fire. Shanks and the other occupants left the mobile home and called 911.

“(The) residence and contents were a total loss,” the report said.

No damage estimate was available Thursday morning.

The owner of the trailer is Tommy Shanks, father of the occupant.
