Fire consumed a heap of mostly junk cars piled an estimated 25 feet into the air at West Main Recycling Tuesday night, said Greeneville Fire Captain Erich Winter.

Apparently a junk car had flipped over, the battery ignited, and the blaze spread to other junk cars and scrap metal in the pile, whose diameter was estimated at 100 feet, Winter said.

Firefighters used both an aerial ladder nozzle and a portable ground monitor nozzle to spray the flames.
