Midnight on Main

A highlight of the Town of Greeneville’s Midnight on Main celebration is the ball drop and fireworks display to ring in the new year.

Plans are being finalized for the Town of Greeneville’s fifth annual Midnight On Main celebration to ring in the new year.

Two blocks of Main Street will be filled with music, dancing, food and other festivities for all ages beginning at 8 p.m. Dec. 31, according to a news release from the town.

New to this year’s celebration will be an indoor kids zone, according to organizer Amy Rose, the town’s public relations manager.

“We’re so happy to have a warm place at First Presbyterian Church for families to enjoy this year’s kids zone,” Rose said. “The most exciting part is the carnival-themed activities provided by volunteers from First Christian Church.”

Families are invited to “step right up” for games, a photo booth, and other fun activities.

Midnight On Main will feature three live music venues: General Morgan Inn, Catalyst Coffee Company and the Capitol Theatre, according to the release. Other musical entertainment will include a street dance, “Karaoke at the Catalyst” and a party on the terrace of the General Morgan Inn.

DJ Joe Prokop of Big Show Entertainment will lead the upbeat street dance. Both the kids zone and street dance are free to the public.

A highlight of Midnight on Main will be the ball drop by Greeneville Light & Power System. The ball drop will take place during the countdown to a spectacular midnight fireworks show above Main Street, Rose said.

Taking place in conjunction with the ball drop will be a new ceremony conducted by Greeneville Mayor W.T. Daniels to recognize people’s New Year’s resolutions. Throughout the evening, resolutions will be collected in a special location, then transported to the ball drop area by Mayor Daniels, the release says.

“This should be one of those goose-bump moments as everyone watches their wishes for the new year move with the ball drop,” Rose said.

In addition, the General Morgan Inn, Capitol Theatre and Catalyst Coffee Company are planning special entertainment and activities.

The General Morgan Inn, an event sponsor, is offering admission to both its lobby and terrace for $35 for ages 21 and older. Doors open at 6 p.m. for paid admission, the release stated. The $35 admission includes hors d’oeuvres, party favors and a champagne toast.

Cleve Edwards will play piano in the lobby from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by the band Ivy Road. DJ Robbie Britton will lead a party on the terrace beginning at 9 p.m.

Reservations are required that night for Brumley’s restaurant at the hotel. For more information about festivities at the General Morgan Inn, call 423-787-1000 or visit www.generalmorganinn.com.

At the Capitol Theatre, also an event sponsor, festivities will begin with local favorites Heppy Kats performing in the lobby at 8 p.m., the release stated.

The band Whiskey Sticks will take the stage at 9 p.m. The band formed in 2009 after the its members had played for years in venues around the Tri-Cities area. They share an overwhelming amount of musical influences, abilities, and aspirations and have been a part of Midnight On Main for several years, the release says.

General admission to the Capitol is $5. A VIP experience will be available for $25. For more information on the Capitol’s shows, call the box office at 638-1300 or visit www.capitolgreeneville.org.

Live music will also be featured at the Catalyst Coffee Company, which will offer warm food and drinks throughout the evening.

Family friendly karaoke will be provided by “The Karaoke Man” KJ and DJ Services.

More details on entertainment at the Catalyst will be announced soon, according to the release.

The public is reminded that alcoholic beverages will not be allowed on the street during the event.
