Plans for a new self-storage facility on Emory Road have been approved.

Meeting Tuesday, the Greeneville Regional Planning Commission signed off on final civil plans for Stowaway Self-Storage, to be located near the intersection of Emory Road and Gass Drive.

The lot, near a pediatric clinic and pharmacy, is currently vacant. Commissioners also approved a replat of the property to accommodate the new facility. Plans reviewed during the meeting called for a 25,200 square-foot, single story, climate controlled storage building. The plans also included sidewalks along that portion of Emory Road and landscaping.

Commissioners did not take any action, but heard a brief update related to plans for a new Taco Bell restaurant location at the Asheville Highway and Carson Street intersection.

Town Planner Asong Venard reported that the developer had met with Tennessee Department of Transportation officials regarding a driveway permit, which is an outstanding obligation that must be fulfilled before construction can begin.

During that meeting, Venard said, right-of-way improvements, such as a concrete median to reduce the number of left-turn related accidents in the area, were discussed.

Venard added that project engineers and TDOT reached an agreement but that other issues related to intersections near the site are “still being worked out.”

A timeline for the project was not outlined.

In unrelated action, the board approved replat of a property at 206 Baileyton Road. The change moves the property line, which had previously gone through an existing home, to meet setback requirements.
