Range Dedication

Rangemaster Terry Cannon cuts the ribbon following a dedication ceremony for the Greene County Range and Firearms Sports Complex on Wednesday. The new complex was upgraded from the firing range, which was previously used for law enforcement training. Speakers during the dedication noted that the improvements were a collective effort by a number of county and state agencies. Former Greene County Mayor Alan Broyles and former Sheriff Steve Burns came up with original idea and a grant awarded the project was written by Cynthia Painter from Walters State Community College. The construction was completed under the administrations of former County Mayor David Crum and current Mayor Kevin Morrison. The Greene County Highway Department and former Road Superintendent David Weems were also commended for their efforts. The Greene County Partnership’s Green Coat Committee coordinated the ribbon cutting following the dedication. The range is open to the public noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m-5 p.m. on Saturday.
