WAYNESBURG, Ky. — Al Carpenter, 68, of Johnny Carpenter Road, in Waynesburg, passed away Monday at his residence.

Born Monday, March 26, 1951, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Johnny and Viola Joseph Carpenter. His loving wife, whom he married Sept. 12, 2012, is Sharon Green Carpenter, of Waynesburg.

Al graduated from Memorial High School in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, in 1970 and graduated from Somerset Vocation, in Somerset, Kentucky, in 1971.

He retired after 30 years from Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Al was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Waynesburg.

He was member of the Greeneville Masonic Lodge No. 3, F&AM, in Greeneville, Tennessee, a member of Jericho Shriner Temple in Kingsport, Tennessee, and member of the Knoxville Scottish Rite in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In addition to his wife, Al leaves behind two daughters: Jackie (Steve) Cavnar, of Brentwood, Tennessee, and April (Chris) Marsh, of Greeneville; five grandchildren: Stephanie Cavnar, Spencer Marsh, Tyler Marsh, Watson Marsh and Chloe Marsh; one brother: Calvin (Roxie) Carpenter, of Perryville, Kentucky; and several extended family members and friends, who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Carpenter.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Waynesburg with Brother Kyle Page and Keith Singleton officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, Kentucky, with Brother Doug Lester officiating.

Visitations will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. at the church.

Pallbearers will be Max Miracle, J.C. Jones, Bill Collins, Norman Ricker, Ralph Mara and Keith Singleton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Al’s grandsons, Robert Horn, Richard Greer and Brian Singleton.

Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home, of Waynesburg, is entrusted with Al’s arrangements.
