Betty Kirk Bales, 86, passed away Thursday evening at her home with her children by her side in Mosheim.
She was a native of the Bibles Chapel Community of Midway, a daughter of the late Crawford “Croff” and Lea Mina Livingston Kirk.
In 1969, she and her husband, Jim, and children moved to Miami, Florida, where she lovingly raised her children. Her husband, James Fred “Jim” Bales, died Nov. 9, 1973.
Betty moved back to Mosheim in 2009. Since returning to the area, she attended Fairview Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
Survivors include her children: Cindy Bales, of the home, and Chris Bales, of Mosheim; grandchildren, whom she adored: J.C. and Julia Bales, and Lindsey and Mike Jordan; one great-grandson, who was the light of her life: Michael Levi Jordan; one sister and brother-in-law: Mary Jo and Gayle Pierce, of Mohawk; brother-in-law: Joe Pettit, of Mohawk; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death one brother: Sammy Kirk; and two sisters: Blanche Jones and Jeanette Pettit.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery at Mohawk. The Rev. Donnie Bible will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m. Wednesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Vance Pierce, Adam Pierce, Kenny Majors, Max Miller Bales, Keith Jones and Joseph Jones.
