JONESBOROUGH —James H. “Butch” Jenkins Jr., 70, of Greeneville, passed away Tuesday evening at Greeneville Community Hospital West.

He was born Nov. 5, 1948, in Johnson City, a son of the late James H. Jenkins and Peggy Sue Hutchison. He was preceded in death by his brother: Ronald W. Jenkins, in 2016; and his father James H. Jenkins, in 2001; and many more before them.

Mr. Jenkins lived at Greene Valley Developmental Center from its inception in 1960 until it was closed in 2016. In 2016, D&S Community Services took over his care, where he remained until his passing. His family is very thankful to the multitude of skilled professionals at both GVDC and D&S for providing exceptional care, love, and friendship for almost 60 years.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by one niece: Kimberly M. Adkins and her family, of Greeneville; one nephew: Ronald W. Jenkins II and his family, of Limestone; many cousins; an aunt; an uncle; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in Dillow-Taylor Chapel, conducted by Pastor Mike Young.

A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery.
