ROGERSVILLE — Johnie William “Jay/John” Bowman, 81, of Bulls Gap, went home to be with the Lord Saturday while surrounded by his family.

He was a loving husband, daddy, papaw, brother and friend to many. He loved to farm and watch his grandchildren play sports.

Jay retired after 32 years of service from Card and Label.

He was a faithful member of Bulls Gap Baptist Church for many years.

He is preceded in death by his father: Lidge Bowman; his mother: Charlsie Barnes; sisters: Betty Pinkston and Bernice Hogan; and a brother: James “Tootler” Bowman.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 59 years: Maria Bowman; children: Kathie (Larry) Lyon, Diannia (Jayson) Kesterson, Stacey Bowman, Tracey (Amanda) Bowman and Troy Bowman; grandchildren: Tara Cox, Madison, Molley, Katilyn and Kasie Bowman, and Jhase Kesterson; a sister: Mildred Carter; a brother: Charles (Brenda) Bowman; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Bulls Gap Baptist Church in Bulls Gap. The funeral ceremony will follow at 8 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Dwain Brewer and the Rev. Paul Winchester officiating.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at McCullough-Tieke Cemetery.
