Leota Kathleen Smith Bowers, 97, of Old Knoxville Highway, Greeneville, passed away Thursday at Laughlin Healthcare Center.
She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and attended as long as her health permitted.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her half-sister: Shirley Esposito Bishop, of California; nephews: Duke Smith, of Greeneville, Dewey Milan Visnic, of Arizona, Peter Visnic, of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Tony Palarmo, of California; nieces: Niki Chu, of Florida and Claudine Palarmo, of California; a special niece: Vivian Humphreys; a special friend: Billie Jane Martin; beloved neighbors: Clint, Lisa, and Seth and Macy Ricker; cousins in Greene, Hamilton and Marion Counties; and good friends and neighbors, especially the Finchum family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Bowers, in 1986; her parents: Carman and Claudine Barnette Smith; a brother: Dewey Smith; a sister: Clara Visnic; her grandparents, who reared her: Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Barnette; and a half brother: Arnold Esposito Jr.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with the Rev. Gail Jenkins officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt Pleasant UMC Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Finchum, Robert Keller, William Grubb, Brent Potter, Jimmy Lane, L.C. Bowers and Milburn “Pete” Bowers.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Wesley Bible Class, James Jordan and friends.
The family expressed a special thanks to the staff of Laughlin Healthcare and Caris Hospice.
