Oscar Lee Holt, 81, of the St. James community, passed away Monday at Laughlin Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 11, 1937, to George and Sherley Holt.
Oscar graduated from St. James High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Gregg Holt.
He was a member of the Army Reserves for six years.
Oscar was employed at Magnavox in Jefferson City. He drove a van full of employees from Greeneville to the Jefferson City plant and later worked for Magnavox in Morristown. He also worked for the Telephone Company and was owner/operator of the West Main Restaurant.
He was very active in the life of his church and community.
Oscar was a member of the St. James Ruritan Club and was a charter member of the St. James Fire Department.
He grew up in the Church of God faith, and after their marriage, he faithfully attended St. James Lutheran Church with Peggy and her family.
Oscar was friend to everyone and thoroughly enjoyed life.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Peggy Holt; a brother: Jerry (Wanda) Holt; a sister-in-law: Linda Gammon; a brother-in-law: James (Carolyn) Gregg; nieces: Carla (Todd) Reaves, Kelly Holt, VeVette Turner (David Jenkins), Christy (Stuart) Hoeke and Lori (Brian) Tanner; nephews: Jeffrey (Traci) Holt and Victor (Anita) Conner; a special friend, Wayne Gunter; and great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He had no children of his own but was loved by all the children who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law: Carter and Suiva Neas Gregg; a brother: Ronnie (Shelby) Holt; and a nephew: Terrance Gregg.
The family will recieve friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with The Rev. Paula Smith and the Rev. Brice Casey officiating.
Interment will be in the St. James Memorial Cemetery Friday at 11 a. m. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Victor Conner, Michael Gregg, Stuart Hoeke, Jeffrey Holt, Kim Neas and Todd Reaves
